Henri Matisse Born in Le Cateau France he studied at the Academie Julian in Paris, and then the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was the leader of the Fauves from 1904 although he painted pictures influenced by Cubism and Impresionism. His paintings use brilliant primary colors.
