Masaccio
who was born in Arezzo, near Florence rejected the elegant Gothic
style and concentrated on giving his figures the illusion of weight
and bulk. His series of frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel which
he created with Masolino had a deep impact on other artists .
He did not complete the fresco cycle, dying at the age of 27.
