The
Limbourgh Brothers were born in the Netherlands and lived and
worked during a period when the ideas and attitudes which had
shaped the medieval mind were giving way to the "new"
which found its fullest flowering in the Renaissanc.e. It is thought
there were 3 Brothers Paul, Herman, and Jean but details are sparse,
they trained in Paris and may have visited Italy at some stage.
In 1411 they became court painters to the Duke of Berry and produced
illustrations for his illuminated manuscript
Les
Tres riches heures du Duc de Berry.
