Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres 1780-1867 Ingres studied with Jacques-Louis David in Paris. He earned his living painting portraits, often distorting shapes. He became a leading figure of French Neoclassicism, his nude art showing Degas's influence, and won the Prix de RA member of the Symbolist movement and his paintings were often inspired by visions. His style was an influence on Matisse and the Fauves and Surrealists..
