Born
in Weissenburg, Bavaria he studied in Paris at the Academie de
la Grande Chaumiere, was a friend of Delaunay, met Picasso Broque
and other Cubists. He opened the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts
in Munich in 1914, and art school in New York in 1933, and was
an influential teacher at these schools until he closed them in
1958
