Born
in Turkish Armenia in 1904 he went to US in 1920, studying at
Rhode Island School of Design, Providence Technical High School
and the New School of Design, Boston. He moved to New York and
studied and taught at the Grand Central School of Art and became
friendly with avant-garde painters Willem de Kooning and Stuart
Davis.
Picasso was the major influence in his early work, drawing
out-of-doors from nature inspired imagery of his later painting
style.
