Swiss born Emmanuel Pahud was born in Geneva in January 1970, starting his music studies at the age of 6.  In 1990 he graduated with the Premier Prix from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris and continued to study with Aurele Nicolet. He has won 1st prize in many major competitions, and was appointed Principal flute of the Berlin Philharmonic at 22 having previously held the same position with the Basle Radio Symphony and the Munich Philharmonic
