Jean Beraud
1849 - 1935
Beraud
was born in St Petersburg Russia, moving to Paris after his father's
death. A Law Degree, service in the Franco-Prussian War, and after
the was becoming a portrait artist. Later he began painting scenes
from Paris, became a founding member of the Salon of the Societe
Nationale des Beaux Arts exhibiting at their annual Salons from
1890 until 1929. In 1887 he received the Legion d'honneur and
a gold medal at the Paris Fair of 1889. After his death, in 1936
the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts honored his work with a retrospective
exhibition
"A Party" - Une Soiree, of 1878 was exhibited as no.178
in the 1878 Salon at the Palais des Champ Elysees and has just
been to Melbourne Australia with the Impressionists Masterpieces
from the Musee D'Orsay Exhibition. This picture was the most popular
postcard sold at the National Gallery of Victoria shop during
the exhibition!
